Volunteer Learning Mentor, Love to Learn

Opportunity Description

Do you love to learn? Can you motivate others? Join us to increase and improve the learning of young people from refugee backgrounds. We will match you with a young person aged 5-16 to help them and their parents engage with homework once a week in their home. You can be placed with a newly arrived child, or with a child who has been in the UK a while but who is at a lower level than their peers. We especially target those who have had little or no prior education or those working at D/C grades at GCSE level.

This week's featured volunteer opportunity is:

Family Day on Tooting Common, The Ickles Pickles Children's Charity

The Ickle Pickles raise funds for sick & premature babies & buy life saving equipment for Neonatal units.

Our Summer Party on Sunday 2nd September is a huge fundraising event for all the family & is lots of fun. This year is our 4th and will be the biggest yet with fabulous food, giant inflatables, funfair rides, Punch & Judy shows, live music, kids entertainers, face painting, Medieval Stocks & lots of stalls. We are being sponsored and supported by lots of local businesses & entertainers & the past 3 years have been fantastic & lots of fun for volunteers & the people who have attended. This years' Summer Party will raise funds for St George's Neonatal Unit which makes it very local and very appropriate. We are looking for volunteers of all ages (from 16 and above). The event runs from 11am to 5pm but with such a big event (we are hoping for 2,000 this year), there is lots to do.
