Featured organisation: Wandsworth Carers’ Centre

Volunteering Wandsworth has helped to place 12 volunteers with Wandsworth Carers’ Centre over the past year. Carer Participation and Volunteer Development Officer, Daniel Blagdon, told us how grateful they are to the volunteers who contribute so much to the centre and the people they support.

“Volunteers make a huge contribution to our work. They provide office and event support as well as offering counselling and alternative therapies to carers. Our 12 staff are supported by 30 regular volunteers and another 25 volunteers who assist on an ad-hoc basis, all giving their time and skills to support carers and enable us to deliver so much more than we would otherwise.

“For every £1 that is invested in volunteer services, volunteers are able to deliver £5 worth of ‘work’, so we recognise the invaluable contribution that these people bring to the organisation.

“We have involved many younger people, especially those looking to expand their experience through volunteering which can enhance their CV whilst seeking work or setting up their own business.

"If you are looking to volunteer for the first time we can provide a supportive environment where you can use your skills to make a difference to people’s lives, have fun and work towards personal and professional goals. At Wandsworth Carers Centre, staff support volunteers with workplans and help them achieve their goals and develop their skills, helping them towards what they want to do.”

Wandsworth Carers’ Centre has the Investing in Volunteers (IiV) mark, the UK quality standard good practice in volunteer management.
