From Volunteer to Apprentice: Chelsey's Story

Chelsey, 23, has a genuine enthusiasm for volunteering that began in her early teens, when she assisted at one-off events. Some time ago she decided to improve her work prospects by studying for an NVQ level 2 Business and Administration certificate. At the same time she decided that volunteering would be a great way to help her complete the course, and help a good cause.

Chelsey found a role with charity Groundwork London as an administrative volunteer, and after completing her NVQ 2 course, continued to volunteer. When a vacancy arose for a Volunteer Services Administrator Apprentice, she had gained the skills and confidence to apply, and was successfully secured the role in June. Chelsey is now working for Volunteering Wandsworth and studying for a Level 3 qualification in Business & Administration

Chelsey said: “I would recommend volunteering to everyone. Not only is it fun, but it helps you gain skills and experience whilst helping the people around you. I enjoyed my volunteering experience and really felt appreciated in my role. This helped me to build confidence and enabled me to successfully secure an Apprenticeship and develop my career prospects.”
