Opportunity of the Week @ Restless Development
This week's featured volunteer opportunity is:
International Citizen Service (ICS), Restless Development
Funded by the Department for International Development, International Citizen Service (ICS) is a global volunteering experience that supports young people from all backgrounds to make a real difference to some of the world's poorest people. The programme will also build a generation of global citizens across the UK and in developing countries.
Volunteers spend 12 weeks overseas, working alongside young people from the country where they are placed. They will be immersed in another culture in a way that can't be matched. ICS is open to 18-25 year olds, with limited places available for Leaders aged 23+. The group sizes range from eight - 30 international volunteers.
Most volunteers are asked to raise £800 to take part on ICS, and support and advice is given to help with this. No one will be excluded for financial reasons.
As part of an ICS placement, volunteers will carry out a project when they get back to the UK, called UK Action. The aim is to raise awareness amongst others of development issues, and of the work that volunteers have done to contribute towards poverty reduction.
We have placements in India, Nepal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
Benefits to the Volunteer
- Volunteers get a three month overseas volunteering placement.
- They gain skills such team working, confidence, communication, leadership, and independence.
- Once they have completed the overseas placement and UK Action, volunteers also receive a certificate.
Skills & Qualifications Required
Applicants do not need previous experience or particular skills or qualifications. Leaders, however, are expected to have overseas volunteering/work experience and/or experience of supporting groups of people. We are looking for a diverse range of young people with commitment, enthusiasm and an interest in the work that Restless Development does.
