It has always been our dream at UCanDoIT of fully integrating our beneficiaries in the day to day running of the charity and to create meaningful volunteering opportunities for our learners with disabilities. Our training has produced sometimes spectacular results which is fantastic. We now have a possibility to realise our dream and provide even more support for our learners. An opportunity to further develop their skills, while at the same time provide much needed peer to peer support for those undergoing the course. So many of our learners live on their own, have no family or friends nearby or find the whole computer thing extremely scary. Having someone who has been through the course offering a little support, especially someone who has completed the course who has a similar disability could make all the difference.
The Hub will contain specialist computers, software and furniture to enable anyone access no matter what their disability. We also intend to make over our kitchen area so that it too is fully accessible. We feel that it is important that our volunteers are able to feel as independent as possible while we provide this supported environment.
UCanDoIT has been invited to enter a competition with 29 other charities to receive match funding from Garfield Weston during this year’s Big Give Christmas Campaign, which will be running between the 5th - 7th December. Each day a certain amount of funds will be released by Garfield Weston which will be used to match any donations received for the participating charities on a first come first served basis. As soon as each day’s money has gone, the match funding stops for that day. In total Garfield Weston is donating £250,000 to the challenge.
UCanDoIT is hoping to raise £20,000 over the three day period to create our Hub. This means we need to ask our supporters to donate as much as possible, as close to 10.00am as they can from Thursday 5th until Saturday 7th December.
This is a great opportunity for us. A great opportunity for our volunteers. A great opportunity for our learners. A great opportunity for you to double the value of your donation. It’s a win, win for everyone. Please support us by donating on the following link as close to 10am as possible on Thursday 5th, Friday 6th or Saturday 7th December 2013:
