Community Cookery Programme

Would you like to get cooking with people from your local group, community centre, church, school or nursery? Wandsworth Council are offering professional training for those interested in running groups, as well as providing new equipment.

Wandsworth Council will be giving 10 community groups an opportunity to get trained and set up cookery clubs across the borough. Each group will be able to select two leaders to attend the training and subsequently deliver sessions for their club. The training is accredited with the Open College Network (OCN) and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH). Participants will be awarded with a 6 credit, Level 2 qualification in ‘Healthy Eating and Running a Cookery Club’ through the OCN, and a Level 1 Food Safety certificate through the CIEH.

The sessions will be delivered term time only over a course of 16 weeks, from 9th September 2014 to 21st January 2015. Community groups will have the option to choose which training sessions to attend, morning or afternoon. Morning sessions will run from 10.00am to 1.00pm and afternoon sessions run from 4.00pm to 7.00pm. On completion of the training, a grant of £1000 will be awarded to each group to set up their cookery club. Group leaders that participate in the training will also be offered a 6 month free gym or swim membership at either Battersea Sports or Latchmere Leisure Centres.
