Mayor joined by a host of celebrities to celebrate capital’s volunteering legacy 19th September 2014

A host of celebrities showed their support for volunteering in the capital by attending the Team London Awards held at City Hall today, which celebrate the outstanding contribution made by Londoners to the city’s Olympic volunteering legacy.

Actress Barbara Windsor MBE, designer Wayne Hemingway MBE, former England footballer Ledley King and Paralympian Martine Wright presented awards to winners, including pensioner Alan Toogood, who has dedicated over 50 years of his life and 9,000 hours to volunteering with the Samaritans, and 21 year old Connor Russell, who alongside his university studies has supported young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve places at university and fulfil their ambitions.

'Swim the Channel' for Crossway Pregnancy

The Crossway Pregnancy Crisis Centre are looking for swimmers to take part in a sponsored 'Swim the Channel' event at Hampton Pool. Swim the whole 21 miles or choose to swim a section of it with friends or family and raise money for this crucial service.
