Spring – Summer at the Wandsworth Common Nature Centre

Wandsworth Common’s Nature Centre is located within 73 hectares of green space
in Wandsworth Common. The Centre is run by NatureScope, a consortium of
organisations which includes Groundwork, All Star Tennis, Thrive and Wandsworth
Council.

Wandsworth Common has a variety of habitats including woodland, meadow, ponds,
leaf litter/logs and hedgerow that allow children to discover a variety of different
animals, plants and lifecycles. The wooden Swiss-style chalet on site houses toilets
and a teaching resource capable of accommodating up to 30 children at a time, there
is also a further pond and food growing beds within the Centre’s garden.

The Nature Centre offers National Curriculum-related outdoor sessions delivered by
the onsite Environmental Education Officer. Teachers therefore do not need to develop
their own lesson plans or resources and need only arrange travel. The education
programme caters for Nursery groups and Foundation classes through to Year 2.

The Nature Study Centre is open for educational sessions on Mondays and Fridays.
Sessions run from 10am until 12 midday or from 12.30pm to 2.30pm. Schools are
also welcome to have lunch at the Centre. Please note that on Mondays until June,
children will also learn about the environment, such as climate change and energy.

If you have any questions or would like to book a session please contact
the Education Project Officer at Groundwork, Mark Patterson:
